Erik's Story
Fifty Pound Weight Loss & Still Losing!
I first met up with SWAT in August of 2006 and for whatever reason, I put off making SWAT an integral part of my workout routine until September 2007 when I started my 1st boot camp. If only I would have started sooner!
Since September 2007, my progress has been leaps and bounds above my wildest expectations and has resulted in more progress towards a total lifestyle change for myself in 6 months then I had in 5 years of trying to get into shape by myself. I have seen results in my physical fitness level I never thought possible, as well as have made great new friends with others who have also chosen to make SWAT a part of their lifestyle.
The passion & dedication Ron & Trey put into the morning boot camps, as well as the encouragement / motivation provided has made it hard to not to want to get out of bed every morning at 4:45 AM and near impossible not to succeed. No two mornings have been alike, and after 6 boot camps to date, that is quite remarkable. Every boot camp and every morning has been a new challenge. There are numerous favorable things to list about SWAT, however one word to sum it all up is RESULTS.
My Results:
In my point of view, results are more than just a pound number. Results are the laying of a foundation to sustain a total lifestyle change.
Erik Before:
Since September I have dropped 10 inches in pants as well as 2 complete shirt sizes. Outside on the track, I now run a complete mile in under 10 minutes compared to not even being able to run a full π mile in September. Results. I have been whooped into a physical fitness level where a 20 mile bike ride followed by a grueling 10 mile hike in the Catalina's is not out of the ordinary on a weekend for me.
I am not where I want to be yet, but I am 50 pounds closer & 6 minutes quicker then where I was in August. The next step now for me will be SWAT Kombat Kettlebells with Trey.
If you are thinking about SWAT, don't make the same mistake I did and wait an entire year to get started. Join now, you will be amazed at the results.
UPDATE: In January 2009, Erik ran an 8:20 mile! This cut his mile time almost in HALF from when he started with us. Thank you, Erik - for being such a great example to others! ~Jana

Read about Michelle's experience:
I've never been what you'd call "athletic" so when I joined Boot Camp on a whim, everyone who knew me was shocked! It was early morning, which I hate - and exercise, which is even worse! So on a Tuesday morning I woke up at the crack of dawn and went to boot camp. Our SWAT Trainer Mike was super supportive and encoraged me to go at my own pace.
I never felt self-conscious about the fact that I was the last one in the group, and by the end of just four weeks, I was able to do the mile at a jog, only stopping to walk once! I was stoked. I had never been able to see progress like that before, so it was very motivational. With winter, I started indoor Small Group Training with SWAT, and within 2 months I had lost 10 pounds, and eve got a little cocky! I can only way "Thank You!" peppered of course with the occasional curse word or profane sign language. Thank you, SWAT Fitness!
Donna W:
I started boot camp in August of '07. My friend and I decided we needed a kick start to our exercise program. I had every intention of doing one session and then quitting. Over a year later, I am still going, and still loving every minute of it! My strength and endurance have increased tremendously, and I have more energy throughout the day.
I never though I would enjoy running and push-ups, but I've grown to like them! Our SWAT Boot Camp Instructor is incredible! Mike combines motivation and encouragement with intensity and drive. He puts forth so much time and effort into the workouts. He constantly changes our routines and varies them with different equipment. I can't thank him (or SWAT) enough for all he has done for me!
Bill P, East Tucson tells us:
SWAT was exactly what I needed to kickstart my workouts. I have worked out on and off and needed to be held accountable and the group did just that.
In four weeks, I saw my energy level skyrocket and my strength and endurance improved more than I anticipated. After my wife has our 3rd child, I will most definitely be participating in another boot camp. One last thing, kettlebells rock!!! Thanks Mike!!
Kim, East Tucson, writes:
Boot Camp is AMAZING! After my first boot camp, I loved seeing how strong my body had become. The SWAT Boot Camp Instructor is great! He always seems to know when I need to hear, Come on, You can do it! He possesses a quiet authority, and because he encouraged everyone, we encouraged each other. NO MAN LEFT BEHIND!
I came to Boot Camp to add a bit of spice to my daily routine. I got more than I bargained for! I am stronger and more confident. I am hooked. I cannot imagine going back inside a gym for the same old, same old.
Rosemarie, 64, from Sahuarita says:
This was my first Boot Camp and I must say I had the greatest time! The instructor Steve along with Kim and Steph and all the other ladies were great motivators to keep my fitness goal going. I have gained quite a bit of strength and feel great. So great, that I signed up for another session of 4 weeks going 5 days a week. I love it and enjoy having so much fun while improving my health. It's a lot cheaper than having to go to a doctor. Especially at my age, as I am 64 years old and wish more ladies my age would participate in sport instead of doctors and pills. Thanks, its the best program I have ever attended.
Janina, NW Tucson:
No matter what level you are, the SWAT Adventure Boot Camp program works for you! The trainers help everyone with their form; not just observing. The instruction was great, the diversity of exercises was really good. And I was able to increase my running from 20 feet to being able to complete a whole mile!
Jonathan, East Tucson:
Because of SWAT Boot Camps, I have gotten really great results! So far, I have lost about 20 lbs, I have dropped pants size and gotten in pretty good shape!
Kristin, NW Tucson:
With SWAT Boot Camps, my Instructor, Ron, always provided new exercises to keep things fresh. The program is very MOTIVATING! I work out harder at boot camp than on my own. I now know how hard I can push myself. Because of SWAT, I have lost weight, improved my mile time, sit-ups, and pushups, and feel stronger and more energized.
Amy, Sahuarita Fitness Boot Camp:
I really enjoyed everything about the Sahuarita Boot Camp. The SWAT Instructor pushed us to do our very best. And it was never boring! Every day was something new. It also left us wondering What Next? And we looked forward to it. Everyone was able to go at their own pace, yet we could all participate together. I liked being able to feel and see the changes in my body pretty fast, which makes you want to keep going.
Donna, East Tucson writes:
SWAT Adventure Boot Camp was motivating and encouraging. Boot Camp has pushed me to exercise in a way that I thought I could not do. I never thought I would be able to run, and actually enjoy it! My Boot Camp Instructor even made the training fun.

Merle, from East Tucson Boot Camp writes:
Boot Camp was a total blast. Even though it was hard, the Instructors made it fun, and the group was supportive. The Boot Camp gave me motivation to get back into a regular program, and do something every day.
Danny C, Northwest Tucson
For several years I have been a health club member, but in the past months, I seemed to reach a plateau. My attitude was getting stale. S.W.A.T. assured me that they could revitalize an overweight, tired old man like me. Since working with S.W.A.T., I have lost 5 lbs of body fat, gained 4 lbs of lean muscle mass, decreased my body fat from 18% to 15%, and regained my enthusiasm for working out. Thank you!
Dana D., East Tucson:
Because of S.W.A.T.'s Boot Camp Fitness program, I noticed inches dropping, and now feel resolved to continue exercising as a part of my weekly routine. I now realize that I can do ANYTHING if I just stay focused and tell myself I can do just a little more....
Terri, East Tucson:
By participating in S.W.A.T. Boot Camp, I noticed that my body physically changed. I also realized that I'm still competitive at age 45, I feel proud that I DID IT! It inspired me to continue exercising. I love my new active lifestyle!
Amy, East Tucson:
Our Boot Camp Instructor made the workouts fun! He pushed us to do our very best and it was never boring. We were able to go at our own pace, but we were still able to work together. You are able to see and feel the changes in your body pretty fast, which makes you want to keep going. I can see a change in my body, and it reminded me of what I can do when I really push myself.
Trina, Northwest Tucson:
Because of SWAT Boot Camp, I am eating more healthy, have more energy, have more time during the day to get things done, and overall feel better about myself and my body. I could not have asked for a better experience.
Maribel, Northwest Tucson
At first, just the thought of Boot Camp was intimidating to me. I thought I was not going to be able to do it. But after just the first session I felt better, and was confident in my ability. It is a great feeling knowing that I DID do it!
Celina, Northwest Tucson writes:
I LOVE the Boot Camp Trainers. They know how to keep us on track, and I would recommend the SWAT Boot Camp to anyone. I love that after my morning workout, I have a lot more energy throughout the day. I have seen great results in my body and I thank you for that. I feel healthier than I have ever felt before. I enjoyed every minute of the Boot Camp training, and will be back for more!
Parissa, Northwest Tucson
SWAT fitness was just what I was looking for, I enjoy to workout outside not in a stuffy gym. It was challenging, but fun. My pushups improved from 25 to 40. I lost 6% body fat and improved my mile time by 30 seconds. My instructor, Trey was encouraging and I look forward to the next bootcamp!

Cris M, in the Sahuarita Boot Camp has lost 20 pounds in 10 weeks and her classmates are so proud and excited for her - they all emailed to tell the world about it!
From Kathleen H:
This was my first SWAT experience - and I LOVED it! I couldn't believe that I could get up and work out at 5:30 am. I loved the energy the class gave me, and I feel stronger already! I can tell the difference in my body. I am going to continue to train with SWAT.
I can't believe that I can do the things I have done - kettlebells, push ups, squats, etc) and that I have ENJOYED it! Crazy! My SWAT Boot Camp Instructor (Mike) is wonderful, and an awesome motivator. I just don't want it to end!
From Julia S:
SWAT Boot Camp is awesome. Not only do I feel like I've lost weight, but I feel more confident, not to mention the fact that I sleep through the night now! Mike's approach to everything is to try your hardest and no one is left behind. He is very motivating, and keeps a sense of humor throughout every class. I really enjoyed everything about the SWAT boot camp!
Nathan K, NW Tucson writes:
I was pleasantly surprised to realize that I could be active again even in my busy, fast paced life as a father of two young children. I CAN wake up at 5:00 AM in the morning and start with exercise, I'm not as old as I was starting to feel!
I never thought I'd be laying down on the ground in a dark parking lot in a child's pose. Ha! Our trainer was Ron and he was always pushing us and coming up with different exercises, making use of the features of the parking lot, even a dumpster! I liked the combination of strength training and cardio work outs. It was nothing fancy and all activities I could do in my backyard or on my own in someone's parking lot.
It was the group dynamic and Ron's leadership that inspired us to keep it up 5 days a week for a month. I was a skinny guy who was running out of energy. With this program I have improved my strength and added a significant amount of lean body mass i.e. 8 lbs of muscles. I feel like I have more energy to do the daily tasks at work and home. Thank you, Ron !
Cris M, Sahuarita Boot Camp
Steve was the best - he effectively worked with the more fit group members as well as me - since I haven't worked out in more than 10 years. He kept it interesting doing something very difference every day. I really enjoyed myself, I feel better, and I'm looking forward to continuing on with Steve and SWAT in t he next months swat!
Matt H , 43, East Tucson says:
Ron and Jana - Wow, what a great program you have going here! This was a great experience for me being an ex-athlete 20 years ago who needed a kick in the butt to get back into enough shape that I am now able to do it on my own.
Years of sitting behind a desk, multiple mortgages, kids and the rest of the rat race as excuses to put it off another day. Both instructors, Ron and Tre were great and I do not think that a single workout was the same. Cross training is the rave of the future for young professionals to get into and keep in shape while dealing with a busy schedule.
I feel great and have alot more enery and my mind is so much more clear and sharp. I only lost 6 lbs but my pants are loose and can give the kids a run for their money at an 8 minute mile at 530 am.
Kay Docter, East Tucson says:
As I was busily walking through Fry's one morning just prior to the holidays, clad in my sweats (not the baggy type sweats, but the ones that I was about to learn show off more of your body shape than the others); when a lady working at the Fry's tapped me on the shoulder and asked if I worked out. I told her that I did and was just finishing my third SWAT Fitness Boot Camp.
She then told me that it was plainly obvious that I worked out and had an "awesome" body. She then asked my age and I promptly told her my age and she was shocked to learn that I was not only 50 years old but younger than she was!
In all of my 50 years and the different workout methods I have been involved in, never once, had anyone told me paid me this type of a compliment before!
I want to thank my SWAT coach, Mike LaCoss, for his knowledge, encouragement, support, detailed instruction, and his dedication to all of us boot campers. Mike has a unique way of keeping boot camp fun and interesting. Without him and the programs that he designs so effectively, I would not have heard that wonderful comment.
I am certainly a Swat Fitness Boot Camp "lifer".
Nicole, from East Tucson writes:
To me, losing weight seemed impossible, but because of the SWAT Boot Camp, I feel more determined and excited about my fitness goals. Because of SWAT, I am 14 pounds lighter. Stairs no longer wind me. My clothes are looser. I am toning up and though I have a long way to go, I have hope for the first time in a long time.
With SWAT Boot Camps, the workouts never seem to get old. The Instructor mixes it us enough, and yet it was always challenging. Every day is tough enough that making it through feels like a small victory, but it is not so impossible that you cannot do it. It is not overwhelming or discouraging like many workout plans. The Boot Camp Instructors are engaging, tough, and yet their sense of humor makes grueling days easier.
Bianca, East Tucson writes:
Being in the military, it was important that I improve my physical fitness level. By doing the Boot Camp, I increased my pushups and sit-ups, and decreased my run time! This has greatly improved my capabilities and will allow me to score higher on my annual physical training assessment.
There was nothing about Boot Camp that I did not enjoy. SWAT Trainers are extremely nice and helpful. I never had an unanswered question. They remember faces and names and treat us as individuals. I really enjoyed the constant pace of the workouts, and the variety of exercises to work all parts of the body.
Wendy from East Tucson writes:
Boot Camp has increased my self confidence and I have a lot more energy. My SWAT Boot Camp instructor did a perfect job of pushing me to my limits without pushing too hard. I enjoyed being part of the group, and seeing everyone improve over the four weeks.
Kathleen P, Northwest Tucson writes:
Can I just tell you how much I miss SWAT Boot Camp!!? I have been in Miami since I left Tucson last June. I miss the group, the encouragement and the getting up at 4:30 to kickstart my day the right way. Thank you, SWAT, for the great gift you gave me and to the many others that join the SWAT Adventure Boot Camp Program. It was one of my fondest love/hate relationships!
Sarah D, Northwest Tucson writes:
My Boot Camp Instructor is very motivating and supportive. I felt so great after the workouts. I never really knew what to expect, and that made it exciting and made it so that I really wanted to give it my all. By the end of boot camp, I had cut my mile time by 2 minutes, and tripled my sit-ups and pushup test. I have noticed huge changes in my strength and endurance. It has helped me form good routine habits, and I am really glad I did this!
Sandy T, Northwest Tucson, says:
When I heard about the S.W.A.T. Boot Camp program, I was excited. I knew I needed to do something different from my "regular old routine." After the first day, I was hooked. I'm not sure if it had something to do with feeling different muscles each day I awoke, or the fact that I was experiencing such a fun time during an intense workout! It was really neat to see the changes and improvements in each of my classmates over the 3 weeks. I've personally gone from being able to do 5 pushups, to my current 45! The variety of activities our S.W.A.T. instructor had for us each day kept us motivated and eager to participate. I highly recommend Boot Camp to anyone wanting a challenging workout from a skilled trainer.
Matthew F, Northwest Tucson:
As a result of Boot Camp, I looked and felt better about myself. Each week, I noticed improvement in my strength and endurance. The instructor pushed me just enough to challenge me, and was very knowledgeable about the types of exercises to target specific muscle groups. I changed the way I ate, and now realize that fitness includes much more than just exercise.
